After a long marathon, the Red Eagles booked their place in the 2021-2022 Egyptian Cup semi-finals with a victory over Al Mokawloon Al Arab SC on Sunday night.
After 120 minutes that ended in a 1-1 draw, the contest was decided on penalties. Our players scored four out of four while Al Mokawloon players missed two penalties.
The Red Eagles will face Smouha in the competition’s semis.
First half
The opening few minutes showed the two teams trying to force their control over the midfield.
In the eighth minute, Al Ahly had the first dangerous chance as Mohamed Ashraf sent a direct free kick with his left foot but the goalkeeper of Al Mokawloon denied his efforts.
Ten minutes later, a magical pass from Mohamed Magdy Afsha put Hossam Hassan one-on-one with the keeper but our striker puts it wide.
In the remaining minutes of the first half, Al Ahly stepped up the game through Taher’s runs and Afsha’s passes, aiming to break Al Mokawloon’s block.
Second Half
Our players kept pushing to break the deadlock and we were awarded after 18 minutes with a beautiful goal from Karim Fouad.
After a clever assist from Mohamed Fakhry, Karim Fouad sprinted down the right flank and shot the ball from inside the box to give Al Ahly a 1-0 lead.
After 75 minutes, Al Mokawloon equalized the score from John Okoli with a strong shot.
The remaining minutes did not witness any changes and the game went to extra time.
Extra Time
The Red Eagles continued their attacks to win the game but our opponent’s defense stood their ground to stop all our attempts to score, taking the game to penalties.
El Shenawy saved two penalties while our players shot four perfect penalty kicks to win the game.
